Finding a therapist can feel overwhelming, but it’s a powerful step toward healing and personal growth. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to help you find the right one for you.
1. Clarify What You’re Looking For
What do you want help with? (e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, stress)
Do you prefer a specific type of therapy? (e.g., Christian counseling, CBT, EMDR)
Any preferences for the therapist? (e.g., gender, faith background, cultural understanding)
2. Start Your Search
Where are many online directories, you may find the search overwhelming. The best approach may simply be asking AI or your search engine “counselor near me” or therapist near me”.
3. Check Insurance or Payment Options
Call your insurance provider or check their website for in-network therapists.
If you’re paying out of pocket, ask about sliding scale fees. (We offer a sliding scale application for those who are interested.)
4. Reach Out and Ask Questions
Like many therapists, we offer free 15–20 minute consultations. You’re not bugging us with your quesitions.
Ask about:
Their approach to therapy
Experience with your specific concerns
Scheduling and availability
Cost and cancellation policy
5. Trust the Process
It may take meeting a few therapists to find someone you click with—and that’s not unusual.
We are often asked, “What is Christian counseling?” As Christian counselors, we have a Christian world view. And we promise we won’t use it like a club. We meet people where they are.
Our goal is the same in every session- help, hope and healing. If you are a Christian, open to the Christian faith, if you’re unsure at this point or practice another faith- or no faith, we will focus on your heart, regardless. We really feel no matter where we’ve come from, our hearts are essentially the same when it comes to what we hope for and want in our relationships and marriages.
The short answer is a question: “Which is more comfortable for you?“
As counselors, we want to help you feel as comfortable as possible, so make the choice that fits you best.
